Fire destroys Geelong home

THE family hit by a devastating fire that ripped through their Geelong home have issued a heartfelt plea for help after watching everything they own go up in flames.

Images of smoke billowing out of a two-storey Anakie Rd home on December 28 were captured by witnesses and neighbours with many on the Norlane street still coming to grips with the event.

Emergency services rushed to the incident at about 6pm and managed to control the blaze quickly, but the house was largely destroyed.

There were no major injuries despite the ferocity of the fire, however, the daughter of the homeowner, Megan White, said her mum and sister had been left with “nothing”.

“This has been a tough Christmas and this has definitely topped it off,” she said.

“Luckily no one was injured, however, everything is gone.”

“Not only that but all of my sister’s possessions were destroyed and now has nothing and nowhere to live.”

Ms White has started a GoFundMe page and is hoping to raise at least $20,000.

More than $11,000 was donated in less than 24 hours.

“My mum and sister are two of the kindest, selfless people and this should never have happened to them,” she said.

“I am asking for just a few small donations so we can get them on their feet again.

“Anything would be greatly appreciated.”

It comes less than fortnight after two people died in a tragic house fire in Lara on December 19.

Eleven-year-old Elihjohn O’Donnell and family friend Peter Cochrane both perished in the horrific blaze.

Elihjohn’s younger brother Braxton, 10, survived.
