It’s understood some media outlets decided to abandon their plans to travel to Sydney for the Western Bulldogs versus Greater Western Sydney game altogether.

However, Qantas said all passengers booked on its delayed or cancelled flights had been accommodated with seats on later flights, and all would likely make it into Sydney at some point today.

A spokesman for Sydney Airport said 50 domestic flights had been cancelled over the course of the day, while others had been delayed for up to three hours, because of the high winds.

It was expected more flights would be cancelled and delayed into the evening, he said.
