RESIDENTS could soon find themselves living next door to a cookie-cutter apartment complex consisting of rows of 36 identical two-storey units.
Developer Bohemia Investment has lodged a development application to build the project at 60 Kowinka St, right at the edge of Woree and White Rock.
Planning documents reveal each of the proposed townhouses would be uniform three-bedroom affairs split across two floors.
Driveways and an 494sq m area consisting of a small pool, playground and gazebo will be all that breaks up the development.
It will be a drastic departure for the residential area, which currently consists of detached houses – but it is not deemed impact assessable so neighbours will not get a chance to submit objections or support.
However, Cairns Regional Council has been touting the need for urban densification, particularly in the southern suburbs.
There could also be more on the way.
An adjacent 7421sq m block is also flagged for future development with the developer looking to carve it off as a separate lot as part of the application.
“The applicant is currently considering several land use options,” the document states.
The council is yet to make a decision.
