Scuba diver flown from Norman Reef to Cairns Hospital

A scuba diver who experienced breathing difficulties at Norman Reef has been flown to Cairns Hospital by rescue helicopter.

A scuba diver has been flown to Cairns Hospital by rescue helicopter after experiencing breathing difficulties at Norman Reef this weekend.

A spokeswoman for Queensland Ambulance Service said a woman aged in her 20s was winched from a dive boat at the reef by the Rescue 510 helicopter following a call for help around 2:20pm on Saturday afternoon.

She said the woman was transported to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.

Norman Reef is approximately 70 to 80 km off the coast and is at the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef.
