Palm Cove Tavern’s new dog menu a hit with customers

A Cairns pub has welcomed dogs into its beer garden with their won paw-fect menu featuring innovative dishes including the pooch favourite “macaroni and muttballs”.

DOGGIES are dining in with their owners at a popular Cairns beachside hotel and the pooch-friendly menu has been voted a howling success.

At the Palm Cove Tavern, general manager Karla Barker said she was inspired by her own pets to expand their cuisine to appeal to local dogs and their families.

Ms Barker said the number of dog owners who are happy to bring their best friend to the Veivers Rd beer garden for a meal has been steadily growing.

“It’s been great, I knew the demand was there,” Ms Barker said.

“I have two dogs of my own and the local pooches have been lining up.

“We served nine dogs a meal from their special menu in the beer garden today.”

At the Palm Cove Tavern, dogs have their won special menu which includes fried egg & turmeric risotto, pooch favs the macaroni and muttballs (pictured) and sausage, rice and peas.

Ms Barker said the response from Palm Cove residents and visitors, be they two legged or four, has been “very positive.”

She said they are currently offering three different meal deals.

“The macaroni and muttballs is the most popular dish on the dog’s menu,” Ms Barker said.

Other menu offerings for puppy’s sound good enough to tempt anyone and include fried egg and turmeric risotto and sausage, rice and peas.

The pooch-friendly menu at the Palm Cove Tavern features macaroni & muttballs, sausage, rice & peas and fried egg & turmeric risotto.

“We started off with offering free dog treats which were very popular and the demand saw it escalate into healthy meals,” Ms Barker said.

“It’s great that everyone feels happy to bring their dog along.”

She said being able to give back means a lot to the local community which is very canine orientated.

“We like to raise money for Young Animal Protection Society (YAPS),” she said.

At the Palm Cove Tavern, dogs have their won special menu which includes fried egg & turmeric risotto, macaroni and muttballs and sausage, rice and peas.

“The Palm Cove Tavern donates $1 from every parma sold on a Tuesday to the Cairns animal welfare organisation.”

Ms Barker said they also organise regular fundraising events such as their popular Paws on the Lawn sessions which allows furry friends (and their owners) to meet and mingle and includes a sausage sizzle and free dog wash.
