Cairns furniture king Bruce Simpson believes he has identified an untapped niche as he launches a new high-end showroom specialising in luxury sofa brands.

Selling furniture in Cairns for close to 40 years the Simpson group of companies includes Forty Winks on Mulgrave Rd, Secure Storage in Woree and now a new outlet called Style N Leather.

Featuring Norwegian leather recliner brand Stressless, established Melbourne manufacturer Molmic and quality leather lounge brand Garstone, the new showroom offers products previously unavailable locally.

“Time after time, I would hear locals complaining that there was nowhere for them to go to find better quality lounges that last and I personally wanted to do something different,” Mr Simpson said.

“I hand-picked manufacturers I know and trust to provide the lumbar support our bodies need, especially as we get older.”

In business since 1982 Mr Simpson operated Hydes Leather Furniture, Chateau Italia and The Lounge Room from the now disbanded Homestyle Centre but he chose to focus on core outlet Forty Winks when national furniture chains began trading locally.

At 63-years-old the veteran businessman aimed to create something special at the new showroom he built with the help of son Craig.

“I am very happy with it,” he said. “We are trying to offer the best, I believe Cairns needs it.”

Local art provided by Cairns artist Petra Meikle de Vlas adorns the walls and fresh flowers grown in a garden out the back of the shop will give the showroom – now nominated for an international award – a homelike feel.

“I’ve always aimed to be the best furniture store in Cairns, and even Australia, but for global recognition, that really says something about what we’ve achieved,” Mr Simpson said.

Completing the service all furniture orders are home delivered by in-house drivers.

“We deliver it and set it up and don’t just drop it in the driveway. To me, that’s the end of the sale,” he sai .

The new store opens this Saturday and to mark 38-years in business on November 1 the team will officially celebrate with the launch the Sheridan St outlet. .
