A WOMAN who broke into the male-dominated aviation industry in the late 1960shas written a play based on her experience.

JUTE Theatre company will hold a creative development session on August 26 which will go through Marilyn Marsh-Booth’s play Cloud Song.

“It's basically about my life from birth to the age of about 26 but we do let the people know what happens after that as well,” she said.

“I broke into a really male-dominated field of aviation and in a stage where there was very few or any woman in anyway in the 1970s.

”It was like trailblazing. Nobody had done what I had done, I had to find my own way.”

Ms Marsh-Booth said she hoped the play provided inspiration to women.

“What the whole principle of the play really is to let mainly women, younger women realise you don’t take no for an answer. If somebody says no to you, you ask why not?” she said.

“You just find another way, that’s what you have to do.

I want to give women confidence not to take no, just aim high and just keep aiming.”

Cloud Song will undergo a five-day creative development before an audience will be able to see a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what is involved in making a play.

“During this, we are showing what we’ve done in the last week,” she said.

“We’ve all been together, the actors, sound and lighting, we’ve been throwing the whole script around, deleting things, changing things.

“There will be a couple of things that are shown, we may show the before and after.”

Ms Marsh-Booth said it was an intriguing day.

“There will be time for the public to ask questions.

“They can find out how lighting is done or how sound is. A lot of people coming to these say they find it more interesting than the play.”

The aim is to get it in front of Cairns audiences by next year.
