Serious Crime detectives have charged a man with a string of offences after he allegedly stabbed a 61-year-old man in the neck during a late night crime spree last week.

The 31-year-old has been charged with aggravated robbery, trespassing, burglary, property damage, resisting police and a series of driving offences.

It comes on the verge of National Road Safety Week, with police increasing their presence on Territory roads and stepping up enforcement efforts.

Officers are also reminding drivers to wear seatbelts, obey traffic signals, and avoid distractions such as mobile phones while driving.

An NT Police spokesman said with automatic number plate recognition technology in place, it was important to “remember to check your rego before we do”.

“Road crashes are a major cause of injury and death in the Northern Territory, and National Road Safety Week is an important opportunity to raise awareness of the dangers of reckless and irresponsible driving,” he said.

“By working together, NT Police and the community can help make our roads safer for everyone.

“Remember, it only takes a moment of carelessness to cause a serious accident, so, let’s all drive safely and responsibly and help make our roads safer for all.”
