TERRITORY Indigenous education provider Batchelor Institute has begun a formal investigation into unspecified “internal complaints”.

Batchelor Institute chairwoman Pat Anderson said the complaints were being taken seriously and the institute’s highest priority was “the health, safety and wellbeing of its students and staff”.

“While any situation of this nature can be unsettling, I want to reassure our students and everyone else that these complaints will not impact upon the meaningful educational opportunities for First Nations peoples that the institute has started delivering this year,” she said.

“The institute is a key tertiary education provider in the Territory, as well as nationally, which is why swift and urgent action has been taken and investigations have commenced.

“The institute has an important year ahead to support First Nations students to learn new skills to support them into employment, such as in health or education, or bridging courses to gain university entry.”
