Basalt, Charters Towers: Queensland Ambulance respond to reported near drowning

Emergency services have transported a man to hospital in a “life-threatening condition” following a near drowning near Charters Towers.

Emergency services have transported a man to hospital in a “life-threatening condition” following a near drowning near Charters Towers on Thursday morning.

Queensland Ambulance Service said they were called to private address at Basalt, about two kilometres west of the Towers at 10.53am on Thursday morning.

Initial reports from the scene were that the person had stopped breathing but had been revived.

A QAS spokesman said the man in his 20s was transported in a life-threatening condition to Charters Towers Hospital.

He said it was too early to provide additional details, including whether or not the incident occurred at a swimming pool.

Townsville Health and Hospital Service said on Thursday afternoon that the patient was in a stable condition.
