Top performing western Sydney NAPLAN schools revealed in last 5 years

An independent analysis of five years of NAPLAN results has revealed the western Sydney schools which consistently performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests between 2017 and 2021.
Over that five-year period, James Ruse Agricultural High School, in Carlingford had higher Year 9 yearly results than any other school in Western Sydney, scoring an average of 3655.0 each year.
Baulkham Hills High School in Baulkham Hills was the second best for the region with an average score of 3498.25, while Girraween High School in Girraween was the third best with an average score of 3443.0.
Principal of James Ruse High School Rachel Powell said the school is “very proud” with their students results for 2022.
“The outcomes of NAPLAN are the combination of fantastic students with academic ability accompanied by hardworking teachers and supportive parents. We have a lovely community environment at the school that’s the recipe for success.”
Ms Powell also highlighted a substantial improvement in students’ literacy skills, with 86% of the year nine students achieving band tens for their reading abilities.
“Our numeracy results have been consistently high for a long time but this year we have had particular improvement from 2021 in reading and writing.”
“We have a whole school approach to improving literacy skills and it's good to see this has paid dividends.” Ms Powell said.
The top performing Year 5 school was Matthew Pearce Public School, in Baulkham Hills, where the average yearly result was 2922.0 over the five years.
North Rocks Public School in North Rocks was the second best for the region with an average score of 2889.8, while Carlingford West Public School in Carlingford was the third best with an average score of 2873.0.
To determine how each school performed between 2017 and 2021, their average scores for each year were combined and the yearly average found.
Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled in either year, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects in either year were excluded from the analysis.
The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
