The King’s at North Parramatta is western Sydney’s richest school

Western Sydney’s richest school has raked in more than $403.5m in five years with the total income per student sitting at $42,122 in 2022, the most recent school funding statistics reveal.

An independent analysis of school financial records from the MySchool website have shown the massive amount of money some schools make every year, and how little some schools are forced to scrape by on.

The figures revealed The King’s School in North Parramatta had a higher gross income than any other school in the western Sydney region, which also took in The Hills and towns west of the Blue Mountains.

The King’s School made a gross income of $403.5m, according to financial records from the combined past five years.

The elite school’s income increased by 32 per cent between 2018 and 2022.

The region’s second richest school was Oakhill College, in Castle Hill, which had a gross income of $196.3m.

Its total gross income per student in 2022 was $22,924.

The school with the third highest gross income was William Clarke College, in Kellyville, which made $191.2m.

Its total gross income per student in 2022 was $23,928.

The figures include all fees, charges and parental contributions as well as state and federal government funding and any other private sources from 2018 to 2022.

It does not include any deductions for capital works or debt servicing.

The analysis does not include special schools or schools that did not have complete financial data in MySchool for one or more of the five years.

The King’s, which charges parents $41,000 a year per student, is spending some of its income on major upgrades. Under stage one of what is deemed a state significant project, it will build a sports pavilion, boarding house, a new day-boy house and a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEAM) building, along with extra upgrades to the prep school.

Megalong Public School at Megalong Valley in the Blue Mountains had the lowest gross income of any school in the western Sydney region.

It made just $2m over the five years.

Its total gross income increased by 33 per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $55,906.

Black Springs Public School at Black Springs had the second lowest gross income of any school in the western Sydney region.

It made just $2.2m over the five years.

Its total gross income fell by eight per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $55,410.

Macdonald Valley Public School at Central Macdonald had the third lowest gross income of any school in the western Sydney region.

It made just $2.9 million over the five year period.

Its total gross income increased by 49 per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $66,947.

Hillside Public School at Glenorie only made $3.1m but has a tiny student population of 30.
