Norwest Christian College teaching director Linda Hogan has praised the work of staff in delivering independent, self-actuated graduates, as the school celebrates success in the 2022 NAPLAN testing.
The Riverstone K-12 school ranked within the top 25 high schools in western Sydney, with Blacktown Girls and Boys High Schools and Western Grammar School in Plumpton all cracking the top 50 in the city’s west.
Ms Hogan said it was “extremely pleasing” to see the Christian college rank so highly, and credited the school’s success in last year’s testing to the “learning powered approach” taken by staff and teachers.
“Our approach means the students are empowered to know how to learn,” Ms Hogan said.
“Its what we hear most from our graduates, actually.
“They go to university and are competing with students with 99 ATAR scores, but our students are coping better because they’ve been taught to be independent.”
Ms Hogan said the learning program had been implemented across the school over the past five years, but had particularly struck a chord with the college’s senior students.
“Its taken a few years to see evidence of the plan yielding results,” Ms Hogan said.
“But, we’re seeing it coming through in all corners of the school.”
