Inner West’s best performing schools for NAPLAN 2022

New NAPLAN figures have revealed the top performing schools in Sydney’s Inner West. Check out what schools ranked among the best.

Newly released 2022 NAPLAN results have shined a light on the Inner West schools which performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests.

The data shows a mixture of private and public schools achieving incredible scores, as the hard work of students and teachers paid off.

Sarah Jones, the principal at Wilkins Public School at Marrickville, said she was very excited and proud to learn her school was identified as a high-performing school.

“Wilkins Public School has a long history of investing in instructional leadership to support effective, evidence-based literacy and numeracy instruction which has been supported by previous principals and the school leadership team,” she said.

“The school’s strong focus on wellbeing and inclusion has led to an individualised approach to learning, ensuring every student is supported to achieve within our diverse community … (and) we are now looking forward to continuing to build on our success.”

While Paulina Skerman, the principal of Strathfield’s Santa Sabina College said she was thrilled with school’s results but added teachers did not specifically set out make lessons their focused around NAPLAN results.

“We are pleased with the College‘s NAPLAN results and these results are used in our suite of data to support the learning of our students,” Ms Skerman said.

“Critical, creative and philosophical thinking is at the core of our teaching and learning backed by explicit literacy and numeracy skills taught across the P-12 curriculum,” she added.

“The students apply their knowledge and are adaptive in their responses … (but) we do not teach to the test.”

2) Summer Hill Public School — Average 569.80

3) Balmain Public School — Average 563.80

4) Presbyterian Ladies’ College Sydney — Average 550

5) Inner Sydney Montessori School (Balmain) — Average 545.20

6) Trinity Grammar School — Average 544.40

7) Wilkins Public School — Average 543.80

8) Annandale North Public School — Average 543

9) St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School — Average 542.80

10) Newington College — Average 542.60

Top Performing High Schools in 2022

1) Fort Street High School — Average 697

2) Meriden School — Average 652.60

3) Presbyterian Ladies’ College Sydney — Average 646.40

4) MLC School (Burwood) — Average 642.40

5) Trinity Grammar School — Average 626

6) Newington College — Average 625.80

7) Santa Sabina College — Average 623.60

8) Burwood Girls High School — Average 617

9) Strathfield Girls High School — Average 612.80

10) The McDonald College — Average 612.40

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Year 5 or Year 9) were combined and the average found.

Schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website
