Full list: Northern Sydney’s richest and lowest earning income schools revealed in new data

New figures have revealed the list of richest schools in Sydney’s north – with one independent school raking in more than $500 million over the last five years. Search your school here:

Northern Sydney’s richest school has raked in more than $559.7 million in five years with the total income per student sitting at $37,434 in 2022, the most recent school funding statistics reveal.

An independent analysis of school financial records from the MySchool website has shown the massive amount of money some schools make every year, and how little some schools are forced to scrape by on.

The figures revealed Knox Grammar School in Wahroonga had a higher gross income than any other school in the Northern Sydney region.

The school made a gross income of $559.7 million, according to financial records from the combined past five years.

The school’s income increased by 14 per cent between 2018 and 2022.

The region’s second richest school was Barker College, in Hornsby, which had a gross income of $462.6 million.

Its total gross income per student in 2022 was $40,080.

The school with the third highest gross income was Pymble Ladies’ College, in Pymble, which made $409.5 million.

Its total gross income per student in 2022 was $39,545.

The figures include all fees, charges and parental contributions as well as State and Federal Government funding and any other private sources over the five years from 2018 to 2022.

It does not include any deductions for capital works or debt servicing.

The analysis does not include special schools or schools that did not have complete financial data in MySchool for one or more of the five years.

Karuna Montessori School at Narraweena had the lowest gross income of any school in the Northern Sydney region.

It made just $1.9 million over the five year period.

Its total gross income fell by 79 per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $29,770.

Yanginanook School at Belrose had the second lowest gross income of any school in the Northern Sydney region.

It made just $4.3 million over the five year period.

Its total gross income increased by 235 per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $26,372.

Cameragal Montessori School at North Sydney had the third lowest gross income of any school in the Northern Sydney region.

It made just $5.2 million over the five year period.

Its total gross income increased by nine per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $17,055.

The Daily Telegraph contacted several schools outlined in the statistics and received a response from Shore School.

In a statement, a school spokeswoman said about five per cent of Shore’s necessary costs are provided by the Federal Government and about two per cent by the State Government.

“We receive no government funding for capital works (and) overwhelmingly, the costs of education at Shore are met through parent fees,” she said.

“The School Council takes a judicious yet balanced approach in overseeing expenses and maintaining school facilities to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the school.”
