We all know that street signs suck at the best of times.
Parking is one thing, with a million different colours and time periods to confuse just about any driver, but dodgy signs while you’re driving is another. One cooked sign, and all of a sudden you’re on the other side of the city!
One Brisbane local has shared what might be one of the world’s worst signs, and needless to say, people aren’t happy.

“A sign for ants?”
A Brisbane local has taken to Reddit to share an extremely unhelpful traffic sign they saw on the road.
“Is this a sign for ants?” their post began.
“Why is the font so small and the sign is massive?”
The post was accompanied by a picture of the sign, which, despite being giant, said ‘merge right’ in probably the smallest font I’ve ever seen - not great if you’re not sure where you’re supposed to be going. Or, even if you do. Who knows what it could say!

“Could be sponsored by Specsavers?”
Some commenters on the post thought the sign was completely ridiculous.
“That sign has to be at least.. three times bigger than this,” said one commenter.
“Brisbane /queensland / Australian road signs are some of the worst in the world,” another person said.
Whilst others were able to find the funny in it.
“Could be sponsored by Specsavers,” one commenter joked.
“A trick to get you into the right lane to read it,” said another.
“It's because you only have to merge a little,” a third commenter said.
“They're whispering it,” another said.
“They’ve just used the incorrect font”
But, at the end of the day, we think it’s pretty clear what’s happened - a simple mistake.
“The honest answer is they have used the incorrect font,” one commenter said.
“There are smaller signs that the highway uses, so they require a smaller font. In this instance the wrong one has been used.”
Again??
It’s not the first time a sign in Brisbane has been called out.
Just last week, another Reddit user took to the platform to share a local street sign that, let’s be real, is borderline illegible.
“Street parking signs with absurdly small font. Is this potentially deliberate??” they wrote in the post.
In the image, you can see a sign which in large letters, reads ‘4P meter’.
It’s underneath, though, where the problem arises, with the time frames so small you could barely read it up close.
Commenters on the post were shocked over the sign - as if regular signs aren’t bad enough.
“Apparently, we are supposed to be able to read it from the driver’s seat doing 40km/hr, no stopping,” one commenter said.
“Brisbane's parking signs are already bogus enough as it is,” another agreed.
But, thankfully, Brisbane City Council agreed, and in a statement to Kidspot, have said that now that they know about the issue, they will be making plans to fix the sign.
"We have heard the concerns of residents and will update the sign as soon as possible to make sure it can easily be read by everyone," a Brisbane City Council spokesperson said.
