Woman discovers she slept with her brother after shock DNA test

A woman who took a DNA test to help explain her health struggles was horrified when it uncovered a dark secret no one expected.

A US woman was left traumatised after taking a DNA test and discovering she had slept with her own brother.

Victoria Hill, now 39, had grown up with just one brother, but she later uncovered she had at least 22 siblings, including one she unwittingly dated in high school.

The Connecticut woman made the sickening revelation after she ordered a 23andMe DNA test kit in a desperate bid to understand why she was experiencing health problems.

But in a sick twist of fate, she unearthed more about her genetics than she could ever have imagined, The Sun reports.

The DNA test revealed that the man she thought was her biological father wasn’t.

Instead, it turned out to be the fertility doctor her mum who had been helping her mother conceive using donated sperm – and he had allegedly artificially inseminated Victoria’s mum without her knowing.

Victoria had always thought she didn’t look like her dad, but was left stunned by the secret she had accidentally uncovered, as was her mum Maralee, now 72.

And Victoria’s mother wasn’t the only victim of the alleged deception by her doctor, Burton Caldwell, now 85, leading her to find over 20 half siblings.

But the worst discovery of all was that one of her half-siblings was her ex-boyfriend Mark from high school.

“I’m traumatised at the thought I’d been intimate with my brother,” Victoria told CNN.

“Now I look at people thinking, ‘Well, if he could be my sibling, anybody could be my sibling’”

The pair were together until they left for university, and met up last year for a high school reunion with other friends, where Victoria shared what she’d been going through.

After being conceived using IVF treatment, a concerned Mark went on to ask his mum about the process, and later took a DNA test which proved Mark and Victoria were half siblings.

Mark informed Victoria of the news via text message, which she said left her feeling “sick”.

“I felt sick at the realisation I’d had sex with my half brother,” she told Closer magazine.

“I could only be grateful we never married or had kids.

“It’s tarnished my whole school experience and me and Mark don’t speak. It’s too confusing.”

Victoria, who is now married with her own children, four-year-old Olivia, and baby Max, has now reconnected with 22 siblings, but there could be more.

The mum explains: “My children now have countless unknown relatives – which is scary. When they start dating, any potential partner will need to take a DNA test.”

Victoria has been traumatised by the whole ordeal and reached out to Dr Caldwell for answers.

When she confronted him, she claimed he had “no remorse: and simply stated he helped her mum have a baby which is what she wanted.

She’s been left haunted by the realisation she could have married and had children with her own half brother.

She also tried to file a law suit, but the quickly learnt that there was no legal grounds to pursue Dr Caldwell on.

Most US states have no laws against fertility fraud, and majority of doctors walk away untouched – with some even continuing practising, CNN reported.

The publication also found that Victoria’s romantic relationship with her half-brother wasn’t the only case in which a newly discovered sibling group interacted with someone in their community who turned out to be a sibling.

Victoria is now hoping to change the law so no one has to go through the same ordeal as herself.
