“What is wrong with people?”

TikTok creator @eraofalchemy has taken to the app to expose a very dangerous act done by campers.

In the video, captioned ‘Nature hates you and so do I - don’t be like this person’, the creator shows a tree stump still lit on fire after being used for cooking, who knows how long ago.

“Someone used this stump to cook on, lit it on fire basically… and then left it here in the desert,” she said.

“What is wrong with people? Put your fires out you guys, this would have burned for hours.”

“People are the cause of many wildfires”

Many commenters on the post were quick to diminish the issue, noting that the stump is surrounded by rocks and sand.

However, others called them out on their ignorance.

“‘It took you blowing on it to relight!’ Yea, just her blowing on it. How about the wind? It could’ve been a disaster so easily,” said one commenter.

“The amount of water you poured on and it was still sizzling,” another noted.

“People are the cause of many wildfires .. and I don't think many realise that,” said a third.

“Fires can spread through roots!!!”

Some even said if the tree was still connected to its roots, rather than being a detached log, it may have even caused a root fire - a wildfire that burns underground along a tree's root system, allowing it to resurface in completely new locations.

“Also could've caused a root fire which could've spread for miles,” said one commenter.

“You might’ve just stopped a root fire from igniting enough to become a whole thing,” another agreed.

“Fires can spread through roots!!! If there r trees nearby a tree burning like this it can cause the others to catch fire from touching roots,” another person said.
