UK mum’s mould horror after roof collapsed four times in housing commission unit

A UK mum is living in “terrible” conditions after the roof of her housing commission unit collapsed, sparking a horror issue no one will fix.

Parents say mould turned son 'evil'

A horrified British mum has told how her kids’ clothes were wet and “covered in mould” at their home where the roof has collapsed four times.

Jodie Paton said the water leaks are so bad the curtains have turned black in the room where her daughters – aged nine and five – sleep.

The London apartment – managed by housing association Peabody – is so badly damaged, the girls have been left with constant “sore throats and coughs”, she claims.

They even take it in turns to sleep on the living room sofa just to escape the cold, The Sun reports.

“You smell it as soon as you come in. The children always have sore throats and coughs,” Jodie told MyLondon.

“When the winter hits it’s terrible. They couldn’t even fix the windows.

“They’re just waiting for the ceiling to collapse. It’s already happened in every single other room.”

Shocking footage shared by journalist Jacob Phillips shows the ceiling collapse in front of the mum – sending plaster toppling all over the floor.

The video was taken last year and the issue has since been rectified.

She claims water stated dripping from the bathroom ceiling on October 8 – leaving the family scared to use it.

Jodie believes Peabody hasn’t done enough to solve the problem.

She added: “They put a stick against the ceiling. A long stick. You can see it fall down as the ceiling collapsed. They just don’t seem to be bothering.”

A Peabody spokesperson said: “Peabody Avenue is a well maintained, regularly inspected estate that is in good condition.

“Where leaks or other issues arise in individual properties we deal with them promptly in the vast majority of cases.

“We have identified a slow leak in one property which affected the flat below which we are rectifying.

“There is no collapsed ceiling here and no recent complaints from this customer.

“We are not experiencing an increased level of repairs at this estate and will look at all urgent cases within 24 hours if they are brought to our attention.

“Some residents with additional needs on the estate are also being supported by our tenant and family support team and the council.”

Other residents in the estate – which is made up of housing commission units – have shared similar claims, with one woman with bowel cancer forced to use toilet hours away from her unit as the one in her home has been sinking into the floor of her bathroom since June.

Footage of the issue shared by journalist Jacob Phillips shows raw sewage onto her bathroom floor.

“Still shocked by conditions at Peabody estate. One resident has bowel cancer. This is how her toilet has been left for five months,” he wrote.
