TikTok Australia Awards 2023: Sydney mum-of-three wins

A Sydney mum is known for “keeping it real” with her millions of followers – now her approach has earned her a prestigious award.

A Sydney mummy blogger who is known for “keeping it real” with followers has been crowned Australia’s most loved influencer.

Indy Clinton, 27, is just two weeks away from giving birth to her third child with husband Ben Azar, but it didn’t stop the popular social media star from attending the 2023 TikTok Australia Awards on Wednesday night.

The mother initially rose to social media fame as a 15-year-old schoolgirl who shared photos of her meals and activities.

Fast-forward 12 years and Indy, who grew up on the northern beaches of Sydney, is one of the most recognised faces on social media.

Now she’s been recognised for her achievements on TikTok, winning “Creator of the Year” after amassing 1.5 million followers with her humorous and videos documenting the “chaotic” life of raising two children under three, with another on the way.

“Thank you so much to every single one of you that voted for me, I did not expect to win Creator of the Year,” she said.

“Shout out to all of the other amazing nominees who create incredible content every day. Finally, thank you to my adorable kids, Navy and Bambi, and my hot husband for their support.”

Indy was praised by voters for her “creativity and innovation” in her digital storytelling, previously speculating the reason for her success on the social media platform has been down to her “unpolished” portrayal of every day life as a parent.

“Over the years, social media turned into a competition with who could look the hottest, have the newest designer collection, go on the most lavish European holiday,” she said.

“And then nobody wanted to see these aspirational lives anymore. It was making them depressed.

“I think that’s why people love us ... because it’s genuine, and it’s real life.”

Some of her most engaged videos include Indy’s pre-labour makeover before welcoming her second child, Bambi, in October last year.

In the clip, Indy revealed how she had a mani-pedi, a bouncy blow-dry as well as applied fake tan and makeup before heading to the hospital.

While many loved Indy’s pre-birth routine, others condemned it, making the TikTok video rather controversial.

“Before someone says, ‘Why am I fake tanning for labour?’ Do I want to look ugly when I’m pushing out a child? No,” she said, pre-empting the critics.

In another video, she showed the aftermath of her eldest child, Navy, getting his hands on a tin of red paint.

The results were a shocking mess on her white walls which Indy couldn’t help but laugh at, however her giggle left social media divided, with some arguing she wasn’t strict enough.

Other winners at the 2023 TikTok Awards include the Matildas who were crowned “Sport Creator of the Year” and Peach PRC who won “Music Act of the Year”.
