I cancelled my wedding after my 'friends' refused to pay $1600 to attend

She wanted a lavish, $60,000 wedding but her "selfish" friends were unwilling to help out.

What not to do at a wedding

A disgruntled woman has taken to social media to share why she cancelled her wedding after her guests refused to pay $1600 each to attend.

The bride, Susan, wanted to tie the knot in a $60,000 wedding but when she struggled to foot the bill, she was forced to call it quits (on her wedding and her husband, more on that later.)

The scathing message saw her ultimately blaming her friends and family for ruining her wedding and her relationship.

"All we asked was for a little help from our friends"

The long-winded, expletive-filled post read: “How could we have our wedding that we dreamed of without proper funding? We'd sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,600. We talked to a few people who even promised us more to make our dream come true.”

She continued, "My maid of honour pledged $5,000 along with her planning services.  My ex's family offered to contribute $3,000. So our request for $1,500 for all other guests was not f**king out of the ordinary. Like, we made it clear. If you couldn't contribute, you weren't invited to our exclusive wedding. It's a once and a lifetime party.”

Susan added: “We just needed a little push. Our dream wedding amounted to $60,000... All we asked was for a little help from our friends and family to make it happen."

In total, only eight guests ended up RSVPing.

“We were f**king livid,” she wrote. “To make matters worse, my ex's family took back their offer. Suddenly, more people backed out, including the...maid of honour. My best friend since childhood. My second family. I was so shocked and tearful." Her MoH also advised the bride-to-be that she needed to stick to a smaller budget as she was asking for way too much.

Her partner then suggested the pair get married in Vegas instead, but Susan quickly shut down that idea, saying she wanted to be “a Kardashian” for the day and have a luxurious ceremony and reception.

She also got mad at him for gossiping about her behind her back to her ex-MoH, calling her a “stuck-up b*tch.”

“Anyway, I am exhausted. I am bone tired. My heart is not the same. It's stone cold," she wrote.

Unsurprisingly she had to cancel the wedding, and no, she didn’t pay anyone back. She said she kept the money for the “emotional distress.”

Susan also said she’s “cutting everyone off” and living her life “on her own” now.

"You're out of your mind"

Naturally, the post gained a lot of attention, reaching audiences far beyond her immediate Facebook network.

Among the thousands of comments, one person simply wrote, "You're out of your mind, Susan."

Another remarked, "Did that guy dodge the biggest bullet of his life or what?"

The outrageousness of Susan's request also prompted people to give her a much-needed reality check.

One said, "Asking for money instead of gifts is very common where I live, but I generally give $100, $250 if it's a very close friend."

Someone else wrote: “Who the hell wants to spend 60k on a wedding? That could be the down payment on the house of your dreams instead of spending 60k on a party.”

Then this person pointed out, "It's a rare and beautiful thing when someone tells their side of the story and they still come out looking like the a**hole."
