Brittany Higgins has tied the knot with David Sharaz in a fairytale couture gown by Australian designer Paolo Sebastian.
The bride was photographed wearing the designer dress, which retails for up to $30,000, at the wedding at The Valley Estate in the Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast.
The wedding dress featured a long sleeve lace bodice of delicate lace and a voluminous tulle skirt. She was accompanied by matron of honour Emma Webster.
The happy couple celebrated on Saturday with a small group of close friends and family only in Queensland. There are no politicians or celebrity guests in attendance.
Former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins, who spearheaded landmark reforms to ensure safe and respectful work environments in Commonwealth Parliamentary workplaces in the wake of Brittany Higgins’ campaign for reform was invited.
Television producer Judi McCrossin, who has optioned the rights to Ms Higgins’ unpublished memoir with an eye to making a telemovie, was also in attendance with her husband Stephen Hall, a regular cast member on Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell, who plays political spokesman Darius Horsham.
“Join us in making unforgettable memories,” the invitation said. “Come for the love, stay for the party.”
Earlier, Brittany Higgins made her way to the luxury venue wearing pink silk pyjamas ahead of having her hair and make up done and being hugged by girlfriends as she toured the venue in a golf buggy.
At about 6.30am David Sharaz took to Instagram to post his first text with his future wife way back in 2020.
As he recounted the story, he accidentally sent a photo of Ms Higgins from her Instagram account back to her, when he was trying to send it to a friend.
Commenting on a photo of Ms Higgins by the famous ‘budget tree’ in a Parliament House courtyard, Mr Sharaz wrote: “Love this photo. But mainly the tree.”
In the caption, Mr Sharaz wrote: “Accidentally sent a girl I had a crush on … photo of herself.”
“Few years later we’re getting married! Romcoms do exist.”
David Sharaz first met Brittany Higgins in 2020, when he was working as a producer for Karl Stefanovic’s brother Pete on his Sky News breakfast program.
Mr Sharaz has described watching the “beautiful” Ms Higgins walk through the door of a Parliament House television studio, a fateful moment that changed the course of both of their lives.
Seven months after that first date, Ms Higgins and Mr Sharaz recounted the story in a room with Lisa Wilkinson and her producer Angus Llewellyn, who recorded the discussion on his iPhone as a pre-interview for The Project.
“Yeah it happened quickly. Yeah. It’s all good,” Ms Higgins tells Ms Wilkinson of their relationship in a recording transcript published by the Federal Court.
“Just between you and me, all the best ones do,” Ms Wilkinson replied.
When Mr Sharaz proposed at the top of the Byron Bay lighthouse on New Year’s Eve last year, photos of the couple lined the staircase to the top, where they were photographed by paparazzi.
“I didn’t want to enter another year without you knowing that I want to spend all my years with you … I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” he said on Instagram.
“I’m just a guy, kneeling in front of a girl, asking her to marry him.”
