Powerful women are having the moment they deserve
It has been a long year but there’s been one trend that has reigned supreme all year long, finally busting a dumb myth.

OPINION
Powerful women are the most eligible bachelorettes in Australia and it is finally busting a long believed myth.
Women used to be told, and let’s face it, still get told it all the time, that if you’re too powerful, too successful and earn too much money, you’ll intimidate men.
If, on the off chance, you find a man who will put up with you, then your success or the fact you earn more will cause massive tensions in the relationship and probably kill your sex life.
He’ll feel emasculated and you’ll feel unfairly punished, ending in disaster.
Sure, you’ll have all the success in the world, but you’ll be alone, miserable and on the verge of being undateable.
You’d be better off earning minimum wage and seeming approachable than being an intimidating CEO.
I’m happy to report that the whole trope is a myth and not something we should believe for a second.
There’s been a steady trend this year in Australia that puts that sexist argument to rest forever.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Jackie O, who just spent $25 million on a beach house in Sydney, has also been city’s number one single girl in 2024.
I don’t mean single girl in a sad way either, not in the way of eating a tub of ice cream in bed while rewatching Sex and The City.
I mean having hot tradies papped on your balcony and then getting to act coy about it on your radio show.
Jackie O reportedly locked into a $200 million contract she signed alongside Kyle Sandilands with ARN. The base yearly salary is rumoured to be a minimum of $10 million, not to mention bonuses and stocks.
She’s one of the most successful women in Australia’s media world, and yet men aren’t intimidated. She seems to be turning down offers left, right, and centre.
We are seeing something similar happen with Pip Edwards, who co-founded P.E. Nation and bought herself a $3 million dollar home in Sydney’s affluent Rose Bay in 2021.
It’s harder to get an exact number on Pip’s net worth, but she’s rumoured to be a multi-millionaire.
She’s also a hands-on single mum to her son Justice, who just graduated high school, and a known girl boss.
She’s been the creative director of Ksubi, launched her own brand, and built an empire.
She’s also not scaring men off just because she’s successful, if anything, she’s having to politely get rid of them.
She dated retired Aussie cricket captain Michael Clarke, even if that did end in a PR disaster for him, not her, and she’s been recently linked to Joshua Clapp, a successful business owner.
Edwards is absolutely not being ignored by men just because she’s wealthy, successful and fiercely independent.
Which brings me to the newly single girl Samantha Armytage, who just announced her divorce from Richard Lavender after four years of marriage.
Samantha was reportedly on a bundle when she was at Sunrise with rumours it was above $500,000, but she’s also amassed a real estate empire.
This year, she purchased a $1.3 million home in Southern Highlands with plans to renovate it.
The purchase comes after she sold her Burrawang weekender for $3.1 million in 2020, which gave her over $900,000 in profit because she’d purchased it for $2.2 million in 2017.
At the same time, she sold her Bondi home for over $3 million and bought an investment apartment in Rushcutters Bay for $1.5 million.
She also still has a coastal retreat in Hyams Beach that she once listed for over $3 million but hasn’t sold.
My point is that, despite the fact that she’s one of Australia’s most famous faces and clearly has a massive real estate empire, I don’t think she’ll be hurting for a date either once she’s ready to put herself back out there.
Being wealthy, successful and independent isn’t going to kill your dating life, just look at Jackie O’s balcony on a Saturday night.
