When Nellie the greyhound met Moose the American Staffordshire Terrier it was love at first sight.
Camilla Hasloch, a greyhound lover, had given in to her three daughters and allowed them to get the Moose, a female American Staffy, but mum craved her greyhound to go with the family’s dog and four cats.
“I was on Instagram one day and there was a video with Nellie so I decided to register with Greyhounds As Pets,” Hasloch said.
“I’d previously had a couple of senior greyhounds that lived to 16 and 18 and having another dog around the house made me want to get another greyhound.
“I said to the girls, ‘you’ve got your dog, I’m going back to greyhound world’.
“When we got out to GAP headquarters at Londonderry, they introduced Nellie to Moose and it was love at first sight.
“After a few zoomies, they were snuggling up on a bed and from that moment there was only one greyhound coming home with us.”
Amazingly, Nellie and Moose share the same birthday, October 26, eight years apart and like the story of Felix and Oscar in the 1970s US sitcom, the Odd Couple, they overcame their contrasting personalities and instantly struck up a bond.
“She settled in so easily at home,” Hasloch said.
“I remember speaking to the girls at GAP before we brought her home and they asked if we have stairs, which we do, because greyhounds can be very awkward on them.
“The first day we got her home and she followed Moose up and down the stairs and handled them like an expert.
“It way like me introducing her to the cats, she just took it all in her stride.
“Moose is so playful and Nellie so calming.
“They say opposites attract and that’s the case with these two and they are now basically inseparable.”
On Sunday, Greyhounds As Pets NSW will host their National Adoption Day at the Moore Park Entertainment Quarter.
“This will be our biggest event of the year, with 60 beautiful greyhounds looking for loving homes! Could one be yours?” a GAP NSW release said.
“Whether you have children or other pets, live alone, work full-time, stay at home or are just looking for a sweet companion, there is a greyhound that will fit your lifestyle.”
