Parents are divided over the 'genius' cake hack that means no crumbly mess

Less of a clean-up is always good, but does anyone REALLY care? I mean, it's cake!

Parent are mind blown over the ultimate cake hack that means no crumbly mess

Forget how to cut a cake to ensure all the little gremlins (read: children) get the same-sized piece of cake. Apparently, our biggest worry when it comes to kids' birthday parties is how to slice the cake to ensure no rogue crumbs get in a slice or all over the table and floor.

True story. Some people actually care about this stuff and there's a viral video doing the rounds that shows us how to "properly" cut a cake to prove it.

Random social media fact-finder, Sidneyraz, caused a stir when he shared a clip of how amazed he was to find out that we've been cutting cake wrong all this time.

"Sure sure sure obviously," he captioned the video. Sarcasm detected.

How to cut a cake without any crumbs and mess

If you're the person that finds the centre of the cake and cuts from the inside, then down and out, you're doing it wrong.

The video explains that "cake is supposed to be cut from the side to eliminate crumbs."

Yes, in order to avoid a crumbly mess, cut from the outside and make your way to the centre.

Sidneyraz then demonstrates the 'hack' by showing the results of cutting a slice of cake in two different ways.

"Instead of cutting down into a cake, if you cut in from the side, you won't have any of those cake crumbs dragging through the frosting," he further explains.

The viral cake hack has parents divided

While the video, which shows it totally works BTW, has gone viral - attracting over 2.7K comments.

But it has the internet slightly divided.

Many were impressed by the tip and were keen to give it a go.

"I have to try it! On to the store to get cake," one person commented.

"I must now buy a cake for “science," another agreed.

And another mind-blown follower shared: "The fact that I bake cakes for a living and ain’t know this. Fml."

But not everyone was impressed. Many comments that rolled through were from people who couldn't believe that crumbs in cake were a pet peeve for some. I mean, it's CAKE!

"I can honestly say crumbs in the frosting have never, ever reduced my enjoyment of a piece of cake!" one person slammed.

"Don't care if there are cake crumbs. Get in my belly!" another agreed.

And others added: "Life is too short to worry about the position of crumbs, just eat the cake and enjoy" and "They both look the same in my stomach."

True dat.

Look ma, no crumbs!

But for those who ARE a little fussy when it comes to the mess that cake can bring, other followers offered a few more helpful tips.

Apparently, all you really need is a hot knife. Or dental floss.

"Something they taught us when I worked in a restaurant that was also a bakery was to get really hot water running and run your knife under it for around 30 seconds before each cut on a cake. It helps prevent the icing and cake from sticking to it and comes out cleaner," one person offered.

And plenty of others recommended the hot knife trick.

"You dip your knife in hot water and cut. That's the way professionals do it, also buy a cake knife if you cut a lot of cakes," another echoed, while also highlighting the fact that the gentleman in the video was attempting to cut a cake with a butter knife. That's never gonna end well, bruh.

And then others offered the tip of using floss.

"Unflavored floss works the best, in my opinion, and you can cut the whole cake easily into even slices," one shared.

And another agreed this tip works best: "My mum uses unflavored dental floss, but I honestly don’t mind if it’s crumbly as long as it’s tasty."

And to that, we say AMEN! Just dig in...
