‘I work in a daycare and these 5 things parents do drive me crazy’

A daycare worker has taken to TikTok to share her five biggest pet peeves she can’t stand you doing.

I’ve been shopping around my local area to find the perfect childcare for my 13-month-old daughter, and there’s one thing I’ve realised after each and every visit: being a childcare worker is not for the weak!

Walking into the centre to see an educator with three babies running in different directions and another throwing a tantrum on the floor, I only have the utmost respect for the men and women who care for our kids.

So when I came across a clip shared to TikTok by @kitkat200030, a 23-year-old uni graduate discussed the things she's "learnt to hate" as a childcare practitioner, I took note and listened.

Cute but impractical

In the oh-so-adorable world of toddler fashion, dungarees or overalls are a staple in my daughter’s wardrobe.

However, KitKat reveals that their charm fades very quickly during nappy changes, transforming the process into a Cirque de Soleil act. 

Footwear fiascos

While high-top Converse shoes are one of my favourite shoes, KitKat emphasises their impracticality for the little ones. 

Wrestling with these miniature shoes has her pining for the simplicity of Velcro closures— practicality over fashion for the win.

The vanishing act of hats, scarves, and gloves

It seems a common occurrence in daycares to see unnamed hats, scarves, and gloves disappear without a trace as they reappear without their buddy or owner to claim.

BYO toys

Sending children to daycare with their cherished toys may seem sweet, but KitKat sheds light on the potential pitfalls. 

Beloved playthings can inadvertently transform innocent playtime into a battleground, with disputes among the kids erupting as they all vie for the new toy.

The all-in-one 

Imagine orchestrating a group of children into the garden, only to be confronted with the intricate all-in-one coat. 

According to KitKat, she doesn’t have the time (nor the patience) to try and coordinate your child’s limbs into an all-in-one coat in the cooler months.

Ok, so my checklist for daycare includes: labelling her clothes, no high-tops, no overalls without buttons at the bottom, keeping toys at home and no all in one coats in winter, I think I can do that!
