‘I don’t think my two-year-old’s daycare teacher likes her’

“The others focus on positives, but I think this teacher lies and says my daughter is sick so she’ll get sent home,” the frustrated mum reveals.

Claudia’s two-year-old daughter Emmy is a relatively happy kid and after spending her first two years at home with her stay-at-home-dad, Emmy seemed to transition smoothly into daycare.

The reports from the app and from teachers are positive, except for one, who claims Emmy is miserable all day and is constantly getting sick.

“Yesterday, the app said she slept 45 minutes and ate all her meals,” Claudia posted on Reddit.

“But when we picked her up, the teacher asked, ‘What is wrong with her? She only slept five minutes and didn’t eat anything’.”

There’s also a weekly call for Claudia to come pick up Emmy due to fever, even though the confused mum never sees any sign of a temperature when she comes to the centre.

“I leave work only to find that my daughter seems fine. The teacher comments that she’s been doing nothing but crying and won’t eat… then she’ll say that Emmy has a fever so she can’t come in for two days.”

Claudia can’t work out what to believe.

Mum suspects daycare teacher doesn’t like child

It’s not just reports of Emmy’s alleged behaviour that confuses Claudia.

The teacher’s behaviour is dangerous as she regularly exposes Emmy to food she’s allergic to.

“She keeps feeding our daughter citrus which she’s allergic to. It gives her horrible diarrhoea and tummy aches, then she will complain and get sent home.”

Commentors were unanimous in their opinion: Claudia’s suspicions are correct, and Emmy isn’t safe at daycare.

“She does not like your child and she’s feeding her food she’s allergic to,” one person said. “This is a pull-her-out-of-this-daycare-immediately situation.”

“This woman is poisoning your child and you’re asking if you’re overreacting? You need to move daycares, yesterday,” said another.

One person said Claudia should escalate the issue.

“Review the illness policy with the director and pay attention to the fever part,” they said. “If they are regularly clocking your daughter having a fever, they need to take a photo and send it to you. A regular fever is not something that should be ignored, and you’ll need to provide info to your child’s doctor.

“The fact that the teacher is kind of an asshole, you can't change. I promise you, your daughter doesn't care right now. So don't worry about that part. I'd only start to worry if the teacher's dislike started to morph into abuse - and honestly, that is starting to show itself. I'd start looking around at other daycares.”
