A woman has taken a bold stand against her globetrotting boomer parents and accused them of frittering away her future inheritance on luxury holidays and living the high life. 

“My inheritance is being drunk through a straw in a coconut in the Caribbean,” she exclaims in a rant via The Daily Mail.

"You only live once"

As her parents unveiled plans for yet another lavish getaway, this time to a villa in Tuscany with a pool and overlooking olive groves, it finally dawned on her — there would be nothing left to pass down.

When she questioned their decision, they responded by saying ‘YOLO’ (You Only Live Once), a phrase ironically taught to them by her.

So, are they entitled to blow their savings on lavish holidays, or should they be more considerate of her future?

The "gap decade"

For the 34-year-old, slowly watching her potential inheritance evaporate into thin air is a bitter pill to swallow.

Like many others her age, she finds herself facing an impossibly expensive property market and has put her hopes on “getting a handout from them,” which now seems increasingly unlikely. 

“At the start of their travel spree, about five years ago, I loved their bravery and ambition, " she admits. “Good for them, I thought. Let them, in their late 60s, have a couple of lovely holidays before settling into a cosy retirement at home.”

“The problem was it didn't stop at just one or two. It didn't even stop at three or four.

“Five years on, my phone is flooded with photos of Thai fishing boats bobbing on aqua seas. Mum's friend moved there several years ago, and she thought: 'Why not visit?'”

The couple have also frequented Ibiza, Madrid, and “many other warm, interesting places.”

She considers their travels “a gap decade,” eating into their savings.

“How can I ever settle down and give them grandchildren if there isn't any money in the pipeline to support them? Do they want to go on holiday more than they want me to be able to have and bring up children?” she concludes.

"Good on them"

Social media didn’t hold back from sharing their thoughts on the woman’s rant. 

“Good for them! I hope they enjoy every fruity cocktail and tropical sunset!” one wrote.

Another said, “I’ve told my mother over and over… my parents worked, saved, and earned the right to spend their own money and it does not belong to me. I told her when she leaves the earth to have as close to zero dollars and enjoy life.”

Meanwhile, a third called her parents “absolute legends,” and the OP “entitled.”

“This life is your own. Take responsibility for your own destiny,” a final comment urged.
