'I can't get a job because of all my face tattoos - they won't even let me clean toilets'

Welsh mum Melissa Sloan describes herself as "addicted" to tattoos, and gets as many as three new works every week.

How do tattoos work?

This mum has certainly failed to ‘ink’ herself a job deal.

Melissa Sloan is a 46-year-old mum from Wales who has more than 800 tattoos, but says she can’t find employment because bosses cast judgment on her appearance.

The New York Post reports Melissa previously had a job cleaning toilets, but said she hasn’t been able to find similar work because of the colourful art all over her face and body.

“I can’t get a job,” Melissa told The Daily Star.

“I applied for a job cleaning toilets where I live, and they won’t have me because of my tattoos.

“People have said I have never had a job in my life, but I have had one once and it didn’t last long,” the mother-of-two added. “If someone offered me a job tomorrow, I would go and work – I would take that offer.”

"My face is already turning blue - I look like a Smurf"

Melissa got her first tattoo at the age of 20, and quickly became “addicted” to the feeling.

Despite her struggles gaining employment, Melissa told The Mirrorshe still got at least one new tattoo every week, and sometimes as many as three.

“If I make it to 70 I’ll still be getting them,” she said.

“Every bit of skin will be covered even if I’m turning blue, my face is already turning blue — I look like a Smurf.”

"I probably have the most tattoos in the world"

Melissa is so addicted she has tattoos on top of her tattoos, and has no bare skin left on her face.

“I’ve got three layers on my face,” she said.

“I probably have the most tattoos in the world, and if not then at the rate I’m going on I probably will have in the end — I keep going over and over them,” she said.

Melissa believes it’s the face tattoos that provide the biggest obstacle for work, and lead to people making snap judgements about her.

She told The Mirror a lack of employment isn’t the only ‘hardship’ she’s faced. She’s also been banned from her local pub and her kids’ school.

Despite her struggles, Melissa is keen to ink herself in the record books.

“I’d like to be a record holder, it’s just something different,” she said.
