Mum with extreme face tattoos banned from attending her child's school play

“People can't understand why I keep doing it to myself but it's an addiction.”

This is what it's like having 200 tattoos'

Getting to watch your child perform in a school concert is one of the proudest moments you’ll have as a parent.

But a mum claims she was refused entry to her child’s nativity play and told to “watch through the window” because of her face tattoos.

Melissa Sloan admits she is obsessed with getting inked and now has three layers of tattoos covering almost her entire face.

"I keep going over and over again, it's addictive I can't stop... my body's all covered,” Melissa, from the UK, told LBC.

“People can't understand why I keep doing it to myself but it's like having a drink…it's an addiction.”

"Teachers told me to look through the class window"

Melissa claims her children’s school has often shunned her from events because of her extreme ink - and this year she was forced to miss out on her children’s Christmas nativity performance.

"They said for me to go to the back garden (and) look through the class window,” Melissa told The Daily Star.

"The teachers told me to do that, that's why I don't go to the school play."

Melissa also had to rely on her partner, Luke, to fill in for her at other events in the leadup to Christmas.

"He's [Luke] going to the kids' fair as I can't go there as I'm not wanted,” Melissa claims.

"I feel so jealous as I can't go to the Christmas fair as I know what they're [teachers and other parents] like towards me."

"I won't stop getting tattoos"

Melissa says she has become used to the discrimination and has previously been treated badly by staff while her daughter was in hospital.

She has also been turned away from pubs as she has been told her ink makes other patrons uncomfortable.

But despite claiming she is also mocked by other parents on the school run and has to “just stay in the house”, Melissa has no regrets about her ink.

"I won't stop for no one,” she said.

"I love it. I feel complete... I love being me."
