A father has recounted the sickening moment he was set upon by a group of wild youths in a Sydney park after confronting them for attacking his two young children.
The man and his wife were at a playground at Blaxland Riverside Park in the city’s west on Sunday afternoon with their sons, aged just six and three, when the terrifying incident occurred.
The boys were playing on a climbing platform when a group of teens began shoving and harassing them.
“One of them took my six-year-old’s hat and refused to return it,” the father told news.com.au.
“I was watching them the whole time so I could see what was happening … they were pushing and intimidating the boys. I rushed up and got them down, then I was assaulted by the group.”

Vision of the man confronting the aggressive youths shows a boy yelling “f*** you, bro” while two girls laugh and threaten to “knock your phone”.
One of the females kicked at the father, striking him in the face.
“Yeah, go call the cops,” one of the girls said.
The father then filmed the group of four as they walked away, one of them with her middle finger in the air.
After spotting his phone, they rushed back, hurling obscenities, and another confrontation broke out, with the male teen demanding he stop recording.
He then hit out at the father before a girl struck him and knocked his phone to the ground.
“They acted without fear or consequence,” he said.
“It happened in a park full of families and young children, in broad daylight. It reflects a broader issue – that our youngest children can’t feel safe in public.
“I definitely felt like they’d behaved like this before. They were laughing. They covered their faces when I started filming. They weren’t scared.
“I was shaken and just trying to get the kids to safety. The boys were in tears and frightened. Nothing like this has happened before. It’s shocking.”
The family has visited Blaxland Riverside Park many times. On Sunday, it was particularly busy and filled with families and the playground was “buzzing”, he said.
He said trying to help his boys make sense of what had happened afterwards was challenging.
“I just had to calm them down and explain that sometimes there’s going to be people that are a bit more aggressive, that they haven’t done anything wrong,” he said.
The family went to a nearby police station to report the incident. A patrol was sent to the park, but not until some time later. The youths had moved on.
Officers at the station where the report was made told the parents it was unlikely much would come of the incident because the group are minors.
The boys’ mother said an officer warned her “the most they’ll get is a warning”, which she feels is “what’s wrong with the whole thing”.
“They aren’t that young and are old enough to know better and will continue to bully young children,” she said.
The man said the police response had left him disappointed.
“I mean, surely there should be something that can be done to protect our kids. The system just doesn’t really respond in my mind, so there’s no accountability.”
A spokesperson for New South Wales Police said an investigation has commenced.
“Police were told two children, aged three and six, were allegedly pushed to the ground by an unknown teenage girl,” the spokesperson said.
“Officers were also told three other teenagers were involved in the incident and allegedly kicked a man’s phone.
“The matter is being referred to Auburn Police Area Command.
Inquiries are continuing.”
The mum uploaded vision of the attack to TikTok in a bid to raise awareness about “what’s happening in their local parks” and to highlight the lack of consequences unruly youths face.
Commenting on the incident, local Labor MP Sally Sitou said: “Everyone should feel safe in our community.”
The incident occurred at about 3.15pm on Sunday and anyone who witnessed the altercation or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
