In my opinion, there are few things leading up to Christmas that are more exciting than finding out what bizarre and twisted ideas people have come up with for the new so-bad-it’s-good festive rom-coms.
Amongst some of Netflix’s craziest concepts yet, including Hot Frosty, where Lacey Chabert magically brings a hot snowman to life, and The Merry Gentlemen, which sees a Broadway dancer stage a Christmas-themed revue to save a small town nightclub, comes the slightly less insane sounding Our Little Secret - and I seriously think you should give it a watch.

A short summary
Our Little Secret stars Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding as Avery and Logan respectively.
The film introduces us to the duo as childhood friends who became a couple that everyone thought would last forever.
But, Avery decides to accept a job overseas, declining a proposal from Logan which he had hoped would encourage her to stay.
We meet the two again after a 10 year time jump, at this point living in different places, and seeing other people. But, we quickly find out that these two people, Cassie and Cameron, are siblings, meaning they’re forced to stay in the same house together for Christmas - all without revealing their history to the family.

The perfect Christmas rom-com?
One of my favourite things about this movie is that whilst the storyline is more than a little crazy, especially towards the end, the relationship between Avery and Logan felt realistic.
Lindsay Lohan has done a few similar movies over the past few years, and though her face has only gotten less mobile, I can see her performance becoming more and more natural. Her acting is perfect for these types of cheesy rom-coms, though I would love to see her in something bigger sometime soon!
Ian Harding on the other hand, I haven’t seen in anything since Pretty Little Liars. Though I hated him during his entire stint on that show (if you know anything about his character Ezra, you know what I’m talking about), I thought his performance as Logan felt really authentic, and made me want to root for him and his relationship with Avery.
Kristen Chenoweth, of course, also played the perfect ‘mother-in-law’ to the two.
As far as the plot itself goes, it’s somehow predictable and unpredictable at the same time - but I think that’s the best balance for a Christmas movie like this. It’s a fairly straightforward formula, so you know you’ll love it, but throws enough spanners in the works so that as a viewer, you don’t get bored.
The animation and sequences in the movie really helped with this, telling a story that requires a lot of information, but keeping it to 90 minutes.
The beginning and end credits were so cute, and is it weird to say that the montage in the time jump was one of the best I have ever seen? Summer by Calvin Harris? Are you joking?? Obsessed.
My final thoughts…
If you go into this movie thinking it’s going to be absolutely mind-blowing, and the best thing you’ve ever seen in your life, you are going to be incredibly disappointed. But, as far as Netflix Christmas movies go, I think it’s pretty darn good.
The movie is funny, and has the perfect balance of wholesome Christmassy goodness to crazy scandals. It lets you root for the main characters in all aspects of their lives without necessarily knowing what’s going to happen next, whilst also having the happy ending you’re looking for in a movie like this.
If you’re looking for something to watch to get you in the Christmas spirit, I highly recommend it.
