Neighbours' bizarre note about dog's 'obnoxious' barking

Despite claims of being "loud" and "repetitive", the owner insists her dog doesn't bark much at all. Cue the drama.

Rescue Dogs Gobble Up Pancake Treats on Shrove Tuesday

In the leafy, quiet suburbs of Adelaide, a dog owner has found herself in the middle of a neighbourhood dispute over her dog's alleged barking.

She received an anonymous letter from a group of neighbours who've had enough of what they described as "repetitive, loud and obnoxious" barking day in and day out.

But the owner found the complaint "bizarre" as she insists her dog isn't left alone that much to be causing such a fuss.

Neighbours record dog barking and inform council

"Given the size of your block and the arrangement of your buildings and sheds, you may be unaware of how often and for how long your dog is barking," the letter began.

"We have been patient with it for months to give you the chance to address it but if anything, it is getting worse. Please take steps to address it ASAP."

The neighbours also said that they've notified the council of the issue and are "keeping record" of when and how long the dog is barking.

"We hope some quick action on your part can bring a speedy resolution to this matter as we have no desire to pursue it further," it concluded.

"His barking has dropped significantly compared to when I got him"

Taking to a Facebook group called Tea Time, the owner said she's at a loss about what to do.

She has two dogs and says that one of them has almost completely stopped barking since she adopted him.

"The dog is a rescue and his barking has dropped significantly compared to when I got him. 85 per cent better than what he originally was," she explained.

She also said that her dogs weren't left alone for longer than six hours at a time, and when she's home, they sleep quietly in a crate in her room.

"Just seems bizarre when they say it's constant, yet I'm home most of the time outside of work and they're not barking right now. Plus, not giving me actual times when it happens so I can address it," she said.

People weigh in with their theories

In the comments, group members were divided, with some suggesting the neighbours targeted the wrong house.

"Is it possible it's someone else's dog and they just think it's yours? Might be worth getting a camera or two just to see if it is your dog, they may be exaggerating on it being constant," one wrote.

Another suggested that maybe the woman was unaware of how much her dog was really barking.

"Maybe in those five or six hours at a time, the dog is anxious and constantly barking. Our dog used to be like that. The second we left her, barking began," she explained.

But the dog owner replied: "I've sat around the corner in my car and listened, I've walked around the other block and sat at the park. I've asked my neighbours on the other side to let me know if he barks, and said if he does please tell me.

"Nobody has complained that I'm directly in touch with and he hasn't made a sound so it's bizarre."
