Google has released its first-ever Holiday 100 – revealing the hottest beauty products online this year. But did your favourites make the cut?
The good and bad things about living in a heavily digitised and algorithm-centric world are the same: that everything is tracked and taken note of. And while that may provide a certain level of discomfort, it also makes for great reporting – and snooping.
In the lead-up to Christmas, gift guides are swirling (check ours out here), sponsored posts go gangbusters, and every second Instagram story is about a must-buy product. Thus, it can be hard to wade through the tons of choices on offer.

Thankfully, Google, as one of the founders of digital snooping, has compiled a list for the very first time dubbed the Holiday 100: a round-up of the most-searched products this year.
It doubles as one hell of a gift guide, but also sheds great insight on the trends and fads that caught people’s attention all year long.
As the cosmetic-obsessives we are, obviously we beelined straight to the beauty category to scope out what Google deemed the hottest products of the year. And while there were some products that we expected to find, other inclusions surprised us.
K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Mask, $99.50 from adorebeauty.com.au
According to Google, these were the most-searched-for beauty products all year:
- Mielle Rosemary Mint Hair Strengthening Oil
- Green tea deep cleanse masks
- Rare Beauty Liquid Blush
- Claw clips
- Aromatherapy eye mask
- Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey
- Shark HyperAir Hair Dryer
- Cadence Capsules
- K18 Hair Mask
- Glamnetic Press-On Nails
- Dyson Airstrait Straightener
- Harry's razors
- NudeStix Bronzer Stick
- Starface Hydro Star
- La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Hand Cream
- Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, $41 from sephora.com.au
Many of these products are ones that we’ve tried, loved, quickly polished off and re-bought. And we weren’t at all surprised to see powerhouse brands like Clinique, Dyson and Rare Beauty make the list.
Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush range has been a firm favourite on TikTok for the past two years, and with additional shades and special editions being added to the collection, we’re not surprised that it made it on. Not to mention it’s Selena Gomez’ brand, which adds a hell of a lot of starpower.
Clinique’s Black Honey Almost Lipstick and Summer Fridays’ Lip Butter Balm are also firm favourites on TikTok, which we’re sure accounts for much of its popularity on Google.
One interesting insight from Google’s list is the popularity of hair-related products this year. Mielle’s Strengthening Oil, the Shark Hair Dryer, K18 Hair Mask, Dyson Straightener and claw clips all made the list – accounting for 31 per cent of the top products.
This speaks to the exponential increase in the popularity of haircare this year, or in beauty speak, the skinification of hair. More time, energy and money is being invested into hair care and treatments than ever, so it makes sense that the list would reflect that too.
However, while we agree with most of what Google collated, there are some beauty products which went viral this year, which we think deserved to make the final edit.
So from hair tools and lip masks, to bronzing drops and serums, here are the beauty products we think should’ve made the list this year, and should be firmly in your shopping baskets for 2024.
