Meghan Markle’s Netflix series is a joke. But she’s the one laughing loudest

"With Love, Meghan" is a celebration of all things home. It’s got cooking, it’s got gardening, it’s got… well, to be frank, a heap of really sh*t tips!

Meghan Markle's Netflix series slammed by her brother

Meghan Markle couldn’t give a shit if you hate her new Netflix show.

Whether you like it or not, the Duchess of Sussex has thrust herself into our lounge rooms in the form of a Martha Stewart-esque Netflix series.

With Love, Meghan is a celebration of all things home. It’s got cooking, it’s got gardening, it’s got some "celebrity" pals, it’s got… well, to be frank, a heap of really shit tips!

Like, taking peanut butter pretzels out of a packet and putting them in a smaller packet with a label for a house guest. Or drizzling lemon juice on avocado toast to “elevate it”. Or piping cake frosting out of a plastic zip lock bag instead of using an actual piping bag. Or making Epsom salts for the bath by getting a packet of Epsom salts and putting it in a jar with a dash of lavender oil. Or buying supermarket flowers and rearranging them to look a little more bougie in a vase.

Revolutionary.

Meghan's series slammed by critics and stay-at-home mums

What Megs doesn’t realise is this ain’t our first rodeo. Most of us have been doing all of these things before she even knew who that red-headed royal, who she now calls her husband, even was!

But she doesn’t care what we think. She doesn't care if you already do some of her shit tips. We don’t live in a beautiful multi-million dollar estate in Montecito with a lush vegetable garden and beehives that produce their own honey and wax. Actually, neither does she… (she confirmed this is not her house in episode one).

Regardless, millions of people tuned in - making the new series hit the top 10 in Netflix’s ranking in just two days.

And while we watched on, scoffing at her kid's party tips as we filled our own bogan party bags with Allen’s snakes, smarties and sherbet instead of Manuka honey sticks and plantable seeds, the former Royal has likely been sitting back having the last laugh.

This is Meghan's world

This eight-part series is a project of self-indulgence and part of a Netflix deal that allowed Meghan to convince Harry to high-tail it out of Buckingham Palace.

With Love, Meghan isn’t here for your approval. She wants to show off the life she now has, away from royal engagements, constant battles with William and Kate, and having to spend yet another Christmas holidays in Sandringham with the posh gang.

She wants a drink. The episode with a Mindy Kaling showed us that. And she wants to convince you to get some bees. Actually, I’ll give it to her there…  I do want some!

And here’s where I’m torn.

You see, this show is made for people like me. My veggie garden is my happy place, I love to cook, I make my own jam and sourdough, and I like to put thought into those little touches when I have a house guest.

I marvel at Mary Berry’s baking, envy the French provincial life of Michel Roux and can’t get enough of seeing Jamie Oliver cooking from his garden. But the glaring problem is, Meghan isn’t any of these guys.

Meghan is no chef

She might like to cook, but Meghan is no chef. And there’s no amount of edible flowers sprinkled on yoghurt that can change the critics’ minds about that.

So whether you’re going to tune in or not. Whether you plan to buy her jam. Whether you are going to make homemade Epsom salts for your next house guest… Megs couldn’t give a toss.

She already achieved what she wanted a long time ago. She swapped the boring Royal life for the trad wife life and wants you to know that she is more than happy with that.
