‘Earthy’ greens, taupes and beiges are the key colours to having a warmer home this winter.
Homeowners are ditching “cool grey” paints for “warmer whites” and introducing timber textures to connect with nature.
Sydney based interior designer Amanda Pocock said colour was making a return to people’s homes to brighten up living spaces and create a more inviting environment.
“People want to inject colour and are moving towards earthy colours such as green to bring more warmth into the space, which is a huge trend in kitchens and bathrooms. They also want warmer whites, beiges or taupes on their walls rather than cool greys,” Ms Pocock said.
“Timber veneers or solid timber details introduce a connection to nature (and) natural light is a common thing that people want.
“Getting core pieces in a neutral colour and accenting with bright cushions can really help bring colour in too.”
Defeating misconceptions that interior design is exclusive to the wealthy, Ms Pocock said the booming trend to redesign and decorate the home can be catered to people on smaller budgets.
“I see a lot of lower income people and middle-class or younger people who have just bought their first home and want to refresh it because they’ve bought something a bit older,” Ms Pocock said.
“People are realising that you can do things on a budget, and you can achieve what you want without being a millionaire.
“They’re also becoming more aware of their surroundings … and evaluating how their spaces impact them and their mental health.”
