‘Imagine you get ready for three hours and your groom shows up in Crocs’

A groom who opted to wear "foam toddler shoes" on his wedding day has divided the internet.

Who voluntarily leaves the house in Crocs? Who indeed?

With literally thousands of footwear options available at the click of a button, we have no idea why anyone would choose shoes that are inspired by gardening clogs, but here we are.

You see clogs on the train, clogs outside kids’ karate classes, clogs on otherwise stylish people walking down the high street.

We thought we’d seen clogs just about everywhere when a photo surfaced on Reddit of a groom wearing a brand new pair of black clogs with his wedding suit.

“Imagine you get ready for three hours and your groom shows up in Crocs,” the Reddit user captioned the photo.

To be fair to the groom, you can’t actually see the bride’s feet, so perhaps she’s wearing a pair of white Crocs, but let’s give the woman the benefit of the doubt and assume that since her bridesmaid is wearing nice shoes, and the celebrant is wearing nice shoes, she too is wearing nice shoes.

Her groom clearly didn’t get the memo, and plenty of people hated it.

Groom wearing Crocs divides internet

One person gave a backhanded compliment.

“He’s wearing a suit, maybe he has a problem with his feet that he can’t wear proper footwear,” she said. “Surely no one, no matter how casual in style, voluntarily leaves the house in Crocs?”

Another person was direct.

“Crocs would be a legit reason to say no at the altar,” they said. “Crocs are a valid reason to not date someone. They are horrible.”

But not everyone hated the groom’s footwear.

“I wish I wore Crocs on my wedding day, LOL,” said one person. “My feet were so sore. Honestly the suit is nice, the Crocs are black. I don’t think I would have even noticed, TBH.”

“The older I get the more hostile I become to discomfort,” said another person. “At this point I’m thrilled to see someone in Crocs at their wedding. I wish more people had the confidence to choose function and comfort over attractiveness and social norms.”

Others had a theory about the bride.

“Maybe she’s also wearing foam toddler shoes under her dress. Maybe one of them is the heir to the Crocs fortune and it’s a condition to stay in grandad’s will?” they said.
