‘Just like Caramilk’: Supermarket hot chocolate goes viral on TikTok

Fans of a popular Cadbury chocolate block have gone wild over a hot chocolate drink from Coles and Woolies – and it’s low in calories.

Caramilk drink dupe goes viral

It’s safe to say us Aussies are Caramilk obsessed and will consume any dupe of the delicious caramel-white choc combo, from ice cream to cakes.

Now a supermarket hot chocolate mix has gone viral after one TikTok video revealed it tasted very similar to the Cadbury block – and BRB, going to stock up now.

TikTok user Eleanor Smith shared last week how she had purchased the Avalanche 99 per cent Sugar Free Caramelised White Chocolate drink and was blown away by how good a “dupe” it was.

“This is just a PSA out there to anyone who loves Caramilk chocolate just as much as I do,” she said in the video.

“So I found it in a drinking form, and I don’t know if this is common knowledge or not but to me it wasn’t … when I tell you it tastes just like Caramilk in a drinking form I mean it is amazing and tastes so good.”

Ms Smith added that the hot chocolate powder had only five calories per serving, making it a less calorific alternative to Caramilk.

TikTok star Brooklyn also gave the hot chocolate a try, saying that Ms Smith was a “legend” for recommending it.

“This is so good,” Brooklyn said after taking a sip.

People on TikTok were also convinced, with many commenting that they were “getting this” next time they did their grocery shop.

“Yum, will have to try this ASAP,” one commenter said.

“I need this,” one said.

“OMG, I’ve added it to my shopping list. I can’t wait to try,” one person wrote.

Others were giving their recommendations, saying they preferred the sachet version over the tin and that it was “so good in frappés”.

“I love this sh*t, it’s heaven,” one fan of the flavour commented.

Avalanche’s hot chocolate is available at both Coles and Woolworths, and it isn’t the first time the New Zealand brand has gone viral online.

Back in 2019, Sydney beautician and socialite Kristin Fisher caused the brand’s original flavoured hot chocolate, which is also 99 per cent sugar-free, to sell out after posting about it on her socials.

Within hours she was being sent screenshots of people buying the drink – that the brand describe as “wickedly decadent” – in bulk thanks to her recommendation.

“I deadset think I’ve received 300+ messages from women running to their local supermarket, some buying up to five boxes,” she told news.com.au at the time.
