Sydney has been putting its best fashion foot forward this month. On Thursday evening, Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out staged a takeover of Pitt Street Mall, filling the city centre with Bassike T-shirts, Aje frocks and glittering Hansen & Gretel party tops—the 14th VAEFNO to date. And earlier this week, the world’s largest cultural festival landed on local shores; travelling all the way from Austin, Texas, was South by Southwest, more commonly known as SXSW—a multi-day celebration of film, gaming and music. In attendance were creatives from all walks and industries, popping their heads into panels and screenings and concerts, whether at the ICC by Darling Harbour, or the multitude of venues SXSW is gracing.
That the guests of SXSW Sydney have been well-dressed, therefore, is no surprise. The spring sun has teased out a palette of brighter shades. Fuchsia suits, red chore jackets and pops of canary yellow sprouted like mushrooms waterside; elsewhere, candy blue polo shirts sat alongside green shoulder bags and graphic shirts. Making cameos were also the season’s buzziest items, street style stars like the Onitsuka Mexico 66s, the Telfar shopping tote and Martine Rose x Nike’s heeled ombré sneakers.
Because if you’re going to sit front row to watch guest speakers like Nicole Kidman and Chance the Rapper, you might as well look your very best. Here, we bring you the best street style we’ve spotted so far at 2023 SXSW Sydney.
