Aussie designers Camilla and Marc have a very similar dress to Meghan Markle’s evening gown

FASHION fans were quick to note that an Aussie label has a dress similar to Meghan Markle’s Stella McCartney evening gown … for a fraction of the cost.

MEGHAN Markle walking to the silver-blue Jaguar on the arm of her tuxedo-clad prince on Saturday will no doubt become an iconic style moment.

After a healthy dose of British pomp and ceremony at the wedding service in St George’s chapel, Meghan harked back to her Californian roots with a little Hollywood glamour as she set off to party with her new husband.

This was thanks in part to her bespoke evening gown by British designer Stella McCartney.

“Congratulations to the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” wrote McCartney on an Instagram picture of Meghan in the dress.

“Ms Meghan Markle wears a bespoke Stella McCartney high neck lily white gown in silk crepe to their wedding evening reception in Windsor.”

Upon seeing Markle’s reception dress, some eagle-eyed fashion fans noted the similarities with a design by Aussie team Camilla and Marc.

The Foxglove dress cuts a very similar silhouette with the high neckline, though admittedly the draped waist on Camilla and Marc’s version is a little different. (Important to note the draped waist would be a bonus for anyone who doesn’t quite have Markle’s svelte figure.)

According to the description on The Iconic, “the Foxglove Dress from Camilla and Marc channels Old Hollywood glamour with the label’s distinctive sophisticated touch. The high neckline and soft draping at the waist create an elegant silhouette, and the slinky satin fabric flatters the figure.”

This particular dress is currently on sale for $350 on the Camilla and Marc website (down from its original price of $649).

It’s a fraction of the cost of Markle’s bespoke Stella McCartney design, which experts have priced at a staggering £80,000 ($A143,000).

To be fair, part of the increased cost of McCartney’s designs comes from the brand’s dedication to supporting sustainable design practices which is very worthy … but still … that’s a damn expensive dress if the cost estimation is accurate.

There will undoubtably be a spike in copycat styles of both of Meghan Markle’s wedding dresses — similar to the peak that was seen after Kate Middleton donned a lace-sleeved design for her wedding to Prince William seven years ago.

In fact, “the Meghan Effect” was in full swing well before she tied the knot on Saturday.

Almost everything she has been photographed wearing since becoming engaged to Prince Harry has sold out in hours.

In March she wore a pair of simple black jeans by Welsh label Hiut, which lead to a three-month waiting list for the denim design.

For her first ever official engagement, the former Suits actor carried a tote bag by Scottish brand Strathberry, which apparently sold out in 11 minutes.

A few weeks later, Markle chose another Strathberry design, and that bag continues to sell out too.

But it’s not only pricey items that the ex-Suits actor endorses.

Shoppers also clamoured to buy a more reasonably priced £45 ($82) Marks & Spencer jumper that she wore during a visit to Brixton in January. Not only did this one sellout instantly, it went on to sell for four times its RRP on eBay.
