‘Horror’: Naomi Osaka outfit you need to see

The tennis world is usually known for pretty plain outfits but some new Naomi Osaka photos are going viral.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka has divided the internet by wearing a wild outfit to play in the opening round of the US Open.

Osaka, 26, who has previously been ranked the world’s number one women’s player but has recently taken time away from the game to have her daughter in 2023, is smashing it at the US Open in style.

Osaka wore a Nike lime green number that was very much in line with the Charli XCX-inspired Brat summer trend.

The sporting star wore a lime green tutu and an oversized with a white shirt that featured a giant green bow at the back. She had matching green shorts attached to her lime green skirt. Because what other colour would her shorts be? Anything else would have been too boring.

It was giving Toddlers & Tiaras meets popstar-of-the-moment meets Serena Williams in the early 2000s.

If you googled the opposite of subtle, this outfit might show up in the results.

Osaka shed the giant bow to play the game and just wore it for her warm-up, but the rest of her quirky outfit stayed on.

When she took off her overshirt, which had the original giant bow attached to it - it revealed that her skirt also had a slightly smaller, but still oversized, bow attached to it.

If you’re about to say such an elaborate outfit would get in the way of her playing tennis, well, it didn’t seem to.

The 26-year-old defeated Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets.

It is a colourful break from the all-white outfits players have to wear at Wimbledon, which gives off more subdued country club vibes.

This outfit looked more like something you’d see in a trendy inner suburbs bar on a Saturday night.

Osaka’s outfit has now gone viral. Not quite “is Blake Lively rude?” viral, but it is definitely making the rounds online and people are divided.

There were some people who just weren’t fans of the outfit.

“What is this dress?” one asked.

“I can’t stop looking on in horror over that clown rag of an outfit,” another complained, and many similar comments followed.

“Is this a real outfit?”

“Couldn’t be more tacky.”

Other people took it far more seriously and said she shouldn’t be allowed to play in such a fun outfit.

“She should be disqualified for wearing that outfit and putting her opponent off,” another asked.

“How did they allow that outfit with all those things?” one questioned.

On the other hand, some people were obsessed with her outfit choices, and praised Osaka for bringing some fashion to the tennis court.

“The icon you are,” one raved.

“Just so cute to me,” another said.

“Tennis needs more fashion trailblazers,” one praised.

“Adorable,” another wrote.

“Love it,” someone declared.
