It’s one of Sydney’s best kept secrets — an omakase restaurant that serves all its sushi and sashimi to take away.

Sushi master Shinji Matsui now packages up his popular omakase experience to-go from his store, Sashimi Shinsengumi, in a busy shopping nook on the north shore.

And with top-notch take-out packs starting from just $30. Sydneysiders are calling it the best value sushi they’ve ever had.

Matsui uses his restaurant connections to secure premium seafood like salmon belly, kingfish, octopus, squid, yellowtail, garfish and more, which is served as sashimi, nigiri or sushi, along with high quality koshihikari rice.

The premium platters are available to order by text message only, with strict pick-up times to ensure freshness.

Australia’s most delicious food guide has been given a fresh update for 2023. While previous guides have lauded the achievements of the country’s finest restaurants, this year the focus is on the best of the best eats and treats that everyone can enjoy.

The guide will focus on 20 of the country’s favourite foods from banh mi to fish and chips, pies, ice cream, burgers, vanilla slice, sushi and more, highlighting five outstanding offerings in each category.

delicious. editor in chief Krysia Bonkowski said Australians were spending less on fine dining and more on accessible food experiences, such as a treat from their local bakery or casual offerings at local cafes and pubs.

“While we may be more conscious of our spending, we’re still enthusiastic about dining out,” she said.

“It’s a culinary renaissance of sorts. This list is a celebration of a more varied, dynamic food scene, celebrating both cost-effective eats and splurge-worthy treats.”
