Cult chocolate dubbed ‘world’s best’ just hit grocery store shelves

It’s said to be 10 times better than Cadbury, but at $8.25 for a family block, will you try it?

Nothing soothes the pain of inflation than a big block of delicious chocolate.

Unless of course that chocolate is also hit by inflation and you can’t actually afford to buy it.

Enter Tony’s Chocolonely bars from the Netherlands.

The cult Dutch blocks are said to be among the best in the world, and while they were once only available at boutique shops, they’ve just hit the shelves at Coles and Woolworths.

Reviews are going viral on TikTok.

But who are these rich influencers who have $8.25 to throw around to taste test a family block of chocolate?

“Apparently this is the world’s best chocolate, and apparently it tastes insane,” food blogger @AngeEats said in a TikTok.

“There are a couple of other flavours… I think there’s three or four others: choc mint, normal chocolate, and this one is the chocolate pretzel toffee.

“But just FYI, they cost $8 at Coles, so unless you’re bougie you can only afford one like me.”

How good could this chocolate possibly be, and if it is indeed that good, do you even want to create a habit eating chocolate that costs a small fortune?

Tony Chocolonely comes to Coles and Woolies

“I don’t know if it’s worth the price,” he continued, unwrapping the chocolate and showing off the slab cut into uneven, angled pieces that he said is “like a Wonka bar”.

He bit into the chocolate and exclaimed, “holy cow”.

“It’s very sweet, but that is an absolute insane taste."

His summary review? “This is the best chocolate I’ve ever eaten,” he wrote in the comments.

Others disagreed.

“The world’s best chocolate? That would be Haigh’s,” said one person.

“Whittaker’s chocolate over anything,” said another.

Trust ALDI fans to come to the party defending the German discount retailer’s home brand sweets. “Tastes like ALDI chocolate,” one person said.

“Have you tried the pretzel choc from ALDI? It slaps,” said another.

But ultimately for @AngeEats, it came down to price.

“I just wish they weren’t so expensive so I could buy them all,” he said in on comment, adding that although it was 10 times better than Cadbury, “it would probably taste even nicer when it’s on sale”.

Which is a universal truth no matter what you’re buying.
