‘Burn it!’ Mum’s horrifying find inside washing machine

"They were everywhere. In the detergent compartment, in the drum, even inside the LED display,” the disgusted woman reveals.

Woman's disgusting find inside washing machine

You know when you innocently open up your washing machine to do a load of laundry and you discover it’s absolutely full of ants?

Yeah, we don’t know what that’s like either, but now we can live vicariously through a woman in the Facebook group Cleaning and Organisation Inspiration Australia.

Put down your snack because this is a disgusting one.

“Just went to do a load of washing and discovered there are ants all through it!” she posted in the group.

“I cleaned them all out and have put Ant Rid around, but when I started a load, more appeared, so they must be inside where I can’t get to.

“They’re even inside the LED display!! Has this happened to anyone else?” the desperate woman asked.

Woman finds ants inside washing machine

The photos accompanying the post are disgusting. There are ants in the detergent compartment and all through the drum.

She even shared a short video showing ants crawling through the LED display.

And that’s when we all vomited in our mouths a little bit.

Luckily some of the group members were more useful, with many offering tips on how to deal with the problem.

“Talon Ant Gel,” one person suggested. “It will take a couple of days and need to be topped up, but well worth a try.”

“I’d be taking off the back panel and emptying a whole can of surface spray In there. Then throw it on like five of the hottest cycles. Any hole would be blasted with surface spray. I friggen hate ants,” another person said.

“Bi-carb and vinegar will kill them in the machine, just hot cycle it. They're looking for warmth to breed in. Undo the back and clean it out, they should all be gone after that,” was another person’s optimistic suggestion.

But we all know ants are determined creatures, and perhaps this is one of those situations where a dash of vinegar and bi-carb won’t do the trick.

Many thought the cause was hopeless.

“We had the same problem with our split system air-conditioner in our main bedroom, ants were all nested in it. We had to fully replace it, there was no way of getting rid of all the ants in it," one person said.

“I think they must be nesting in there. We had this issue with a printer. We saw ants around it and on it and opened the lid and they had nested under the glass. We threw out the printer,” said another.

“We had to replace our hot water system due to ants,” a third person shared.

Some commenters could get past the how disgusting the situation was.

“Burn it,” one person advised.

“And we thought our ant problem was bad,” said another.

“This is mental,” a third person said.

But the most astute piece of advice came from a woman who said surrender was the only option.

“That’s the ants’ home now,” she said.
