A young woman has announced her own death on social media after battling a horrific cancer for three years.
Bella Bradford, 24, had terminal cancer. She was diagnosed in 2021 with rhabdomyosarcoma. It’s a rare cancer that grows in soft tissue. It started in the Australian woman’s jaw.
In a heartbreaking final “get ready with me” video, she announced her death.
“I’m really sad to be making this video at all but, as we all know, I have terminal cancer,” she said.
“Unfortunately my life has now come to an end and I have passed away.”
Ms Bradford passed away on October 15. She was surrounded by friends and family. However the clip was shared over the weekend.
She said she wanted to film one last “get ready with me” — a ritual given she loved fashion. Ms Bradford also thanked everyone who followed her journey.
“Remember that you live everyday and you only die once. Make every day count,” she said.
Ms Bradford added she hoped people found her videos in years to come and felt joy.
For her final video, Ms Bradford wore a long khaki dress from Saint Andrews. She said it was one of her favourites. The 24-year-old said people always “really loved” the dress.
She wore a white cardigan with black trim from ASOS. She paired it with three necklaces. One of them had a teddy bear on it. She also accessorised with watches and bracelets. Ms Bradford finished the look with a hat and shoulder bag.
“Thank you for all your love and support throughout my final stages of life, I am so grateful,” the clip was captioned.
“Filming these videos truly brought me a sense of purpose in my final few months and also connected me with a very kind community of people.”
She wished everyone a beautiful life and added it was a privilege to grow old.
It was clear Ms Bradford touched a lot of hearts with her clip.
“Sorry for your passing. I only hope if I ever have a terminal illness I hope to go through that journey with as much grace as you have. Rest easy love,” one said.
Another added: “‘What a privilege it is to grow old’ in the caption hit me hard. I will stop complaining about being almost 60. Rest in eternal peace Bella.”
One said: “I wish I would’ve found her page sooner. My heart goes out to anyone who cared about her and loved her. You can tell what a radiant light she was.”
“Bella, I saw you with your family in Noosa in August, I recognised you but didn’t say anything at the time,” another commented.
“You were surrounded by SO much love and I couldn’t believe how gorgeous you were in person.”
In June, Ms Bradford posted a clip where she shared the 20 things cancer had taught her. The first was that you only get one life. She also said life was too short to live for other people.
She said kindness was also important. This was not just to others but also herself.
