Aussies are torn over this unique advertising tactic

Whilst some think it's a creative idea, others say it's insensitive and annoying - and might even be illegal.

With so many different options of everything nowadays, companies can’t be blamed for trying out some unique advertising tactics to draw patrons in.

But, there is a point where it goes too far.

A Melbourne burger shop has come under fire after employing a controversial strategy to advertise their products, for a surprising reason.

“Interesting ad…”

A Melbourne Reddit user has taken to the platform after spotting what they thought was a parking ticket sitting on their car.

The parking ticket actually turned out to be a coupon for New York Minute, which reads, ‘This is not a fine! You have scored a free burger’.

Whilst the original poster didn’t share their stance on the advertising tactic, they did open it up to opinions from the public.

“Interesting ad,” the poster said.

“Rate out of 10 on a scale of annoying to creative.”

“That’s an awesome idea!”

Some commenters on the post thought the idea was excellent, commending the company for both their generosity, and creativity.

“9/10 very creative, it will give someone a heart attack to think you’ve got a fine but at least you get a free burger! I’ll definitely take it into redeem that burger,” one commenter said.

“Good psychology! Going from being pissed off you have a parking ticket to being delighted it’s a free burger!” said another.

“That's an awesome idea, I love it. Harmless subversion like that borders on art,” a third agreed.

Others said it could be good, depending on what the company is offering.

“I feel like it would be received very differently if it were like, real estate spam or something. But getting a free burger out of it is actually kinda neat?” said one commenter.

“A car wash should do this, for a free wash for dirty cars,” another suggested.

“If it was a discount I'd be pretty annoyed. Free burger though, that's not bad,” said another person.

“Very annoying”

However, just as many people said that the tactic was annoying, and inconsiderate.

“0/10 very annoying putting junk like this on peoples cars,” said one commenter.

“One way to make sure you'll never get customers, is by pretending they have a parking ticket,” said another.

“Absolutely poor form IMO,” another person said.

“Hate it cause it would set my anxiety off. It is creative but I also don’t want a bar of this,” said a fourth commenter.

Some even said it could be considered littering, and is therefore illegal.

“Not only is it super annoying, doing this on windscreens is considered littering,” said one commenter.

“Putting flyers on cars is littering though, and they could be fined,” another agreed.

“It is illegal to put flyers on car windscreens in Victoria. This is considered littering and is an offense,” said a third.
