Aussie points out 'glaring issue' with popular bin hack

A Melbourne woman has taken to social media sharing a hack to keep your bin clean. Now the garbos are weighing in.

The simple bin hack that’ll save you from a gross mess!

Let’s be real, it doesn’t get much worse than the horrendous smell that comes out of your bin - no matter how recently it's been emptied.

An Aussie woman has taken to TikTok sharing her hack to amend this issue and keep your bin clean year-round.

But, not everyone is happy about it.

The only way to clean your bin

TikTok creator @the_cleaningbestie took to the app in January, sharing her journey cleaning her bin - which at the time was full of ‘dog excrement and cat litter’. Yuck!

The video showed her cleaning out the bin, scraping things off the bottom with a shovel and then disinfecting the inside. I dare say few bins have ever been that clean!

However, at the end, she expressed concern about how the bins would never truly stay that clean, with garbage set to be put straight in again just minutes later. The solution? Bin liners.

"There’s nothing I can’t solve with the help of CleanTok"

After commenters on the woman’s initial post suggested using a bin liner, @the_cleaningbestie made a follow up just this week showing the results, which passed with flying colours.

“I’m pretty sure there’s nothing I can’t solve with the help of CleanTok and my comment sections!” she said in the video’s caption.

She said that all she does is clip the bag onto the bin with pegs, removing the pegs just before bin day.

“I forgot once and when the garbage man tried to tip it into the truck, it went everywhere!” she said.

People were divided

Many commenters on the post were thrilled with the hack, saying it’s truly a gamechanger when it comes to keeping their bins clean.

“Okay how have I lived 39 years and not thought of this,” one person said.

“Oh I need to do this, my bin is a disaster,” said another.

“Great success!” a third agreed.

However, others weren’t as pleased, saying the hack is detrimental to the environment.

“Buy another consumer product instead of cleaning out your bin? what's wrong with an old fashioned hose out?” said one commenter.

“The rubbish is already in bags from the inside bin,” said another.

“but its a bin. why does it need to be clean?” another person said.

“More completely unnecessary plastic that will exist longer than anyone currently alive, yay,” another commenter said.

Garbos in the comments also agreed, calling the use of a bag wasteful and impractical.

“Please make sure you tie the bag up before putting the bin out so it all comes out together,” said one person in the comments.

“We do 1200-1400 bins a day & it’s painful when sh*t flies out or gets stuck because people decided to use a bag but not tie it up.”
