What... is that?

After receiving her package in the mail, a Kmart customer was shocked to find a warehouse barcode scanner tucked among her purchased items.

Taking to the Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook page, she shared the unusual find and the post quickly went viral.

The woman, Avoca, wrote: "Found this when I opened up my order!" alongside a photo of the device sitting on top of some protective cushioning.

On first glance, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was an iPhone, but thanks to the helpful people in the comments, it's been identified as a barcode scanner worth thousands of dollars.

"Now you can check stock in the comfort of your own home."

The post racked up 2.6k likes and 400+ comments and sparked a variety of responses, ranging from comical takes to serious advice.

"Now you can check what is in stock in the comfort of your own home," one user joked.

Another chimed in, saying, "You can change prices on your next visit!" Then this woman added: "Keep it, you'll need it for when the store scanners don't work anyway."

"Sell it back to them or say you want a finders fee," another user suggested.

Then another laughed, "That’s an expensive mistake," while this user called it a "rookie error."

And another wrote, "I bet the worker was like where the f**k is my scanner?!"

Another said: "Too much talking on the job!"

"Sell it! Put it on trade me, some of these things cost between $2k-$6k."

"They don't seem in a hurry to get it back"

Despite all the funny suggestions, some people urged Avoca to call the store to return it.

One shared, "They would LOVE to have it back, it's an expensive item."

"I'd call the store and organise them to pick it up," a different user commented.

Others also pointed out that they have a GPS function in them so Kmart likely knows where it is, so she should contact them.

Then one user warned, "That employee will be in trouble if you don't send it back."

Avoca later provided an update on the situation saying, "I've rung them and they said to just bring it in the next time I go to a store."

She also added that "They don't seem in a hurry to get it back and I'm not planning on going to Kmart anytime soon!"
