"The world has gone mad," she claimed, alongside the photo that's infuriated hundreds of Aussies amidst soaring supermarket prices.

Kellogg’s CEO faces backlash after 'garbage' money-saving comment

So much air in packages, so little cereal...

It's an age-old problem that has become even more annoying as of late, as the cost of pantry essentials skyrockets, squeezing household budgets like never before.

Highlighting this common gripe, an Aussie mum shared a shocking photo to the Mums on a Budget Facebook group, reigniting the conversation.

"The world has gone mad"

The mum wrote in her post: "$10 for half a bag of Fruit Loops. 🤦‍♀️ The world has gone mad."

And she's not wrong. In the photo, she's pulled out the clear bag from the box to reveal that it is in fact, half full - if that!

Kellogg's Fruit Loops 460g are currently $10 at Woolworths, or $2.17/100g and there's allegedly 15 servings per packet.

"Disgusting"

Cue the collective dismay...

The post received over 800 emoji reactions which were mostly '😡' and '😲' and over 450 comments.

"OMG. The bags used to be almost full," one nostalgic cereal-lover wrote.

"Sigh, yup," another defeated commenter wrote.

"Bloody ridiculous and a rip-off," a third claimed, while another called it, "Disgusting."

"We get half of everything nowadays but we still pay the same price!" a fourth lamented. "It's crazy."

People share budget alternatives

However, many users pointed out that "you get what you pay for."

"It's by weight. It's always been like that," one said.

"They probably just have it in a bigger box to give the impression there is more product, or maybe the air is to act like a cushion to protect the product in transit?" a second wrote.

And then others gave the mum suggestions on budget alternatives.

"Go to Costco, they have a 1.2kg box for like $12," one said.

"I only get cereal from ALDI," someone else wrote. "So much cheaper."

And a third advised, "Get the Woolworths 'yummy rainbow rings' - their generic brand. Same thing for just two bucks!"
