THINGS got wet and wild on the Gold Coast over the weekend, with production officially underway on The Inbetweeners Movie 2.

A sequel to the most successful British comedy of all time, based on the TV series of the same name, the film follows the adventures of Jay, Neil, Simon and Will on a trip Down Under.

Cameras began rolling at theme parks on Saturday and the cast and crew will continue shooting across Australia throughout January.

Show co-creator and writer Iain Morris first came up with the idea for the series after reflecting on his student exchange experience in Australia as a teenager.

Things seem to have come full circle for the Brit, with Roadshow Films teaming up to work on the romp (set for release in local cinemas in August, 2014).
